Leather Saddle Pads or Saddle Gel Pads

What to Buy?

Step1

The first thing you have to do is determine what type of saddle you  are riding. This can usually be broken down into either English or Western saddle Pads. The western saddle are a rectangular shape in order to protect the horse from rubbing and causing discomfort. The  English saddle pads are much smaller due to the shape of the English saddle. There may also be the choice of dressage saddle pads and pony saddle pads.

Step 2

Determining what style and material you would like for you horse or pony..
In the new age of horse riding there are a lot of different types of saddle pads you can choose from such as. Gel saddle pads, wool saddle pads, felt saddle pads, and non slip saddle pads. This is a personal choice but personally I like the non slip saddle pad the best.

Step 3

Take into account that it may take a few tries to find the right saddle pad for you likings as they all have different characteristics such as, some slip more than others, some rub more than others and some are hotter or cooler that other.

Step 4

Buy the saddle terrible wether it be a gel saddle terrible sheepskin saddle pad or felt saddle pad you can get the best deal by shopping around for horse tack equiptment at online stores rather that in person at you local horse shop. The store which I use for nearly all of my horse tack and saddle supplies is "The Saddle Shop"

Extra tips about saddle pads

  • Make sure that you keep them clean and free form and dirt or debris to help prevent any kind of irritation or scaring on you horses skin.
  • Make sure that you have no sticker or price tags on the saddle pad itself before putting it on you pony or horses back.
  • As you are placing the pad on the horses back make and placing the saddle on top, hold the from of the saddle in the air with one hand and lift the front of the pad off the withers so that you make a small gap between the pad and your horse so that you do not constrict the movement of the horse.
